This offbeat comedy revolves around the fluctuating fortunes of Preman (Fahadh Faasil), the caretaker of a flat at Cochin. Everyone in the flat calls him 'Natholi' (Indian anchovy) due to his short stature. As a release from the pressures he faces due to some unfortunate events in the flat, he begins to write a story with characters that mirror the people in his real life and plays with their lives in his story. Soon, he gets into conflict with Prabha (Kamalini Mukherji), a petulant woman who is into the business of adventure tourism. She makes life hell for everyone around including that of Preman. So, he decides to bring in a villain in his story to settle scores with Prabha. He names the villain as Narendran, who happens to be a sophisticated version of Preman himself. This avant garde comedy delves into the conflict between Preman and the character he creates. He gradually loses control over the character he creates and it begins to act on its own.The rest of the movie is a display of Preman trying to wrest back control of his character and the ensuing plot twists.

Fahadh Faasil plays a dual role in this movie.

This movie is loosely inspired from the Hindi movie, Freaky Chakra (2003).

Shankar Ramakrishnan’s script for this movie, is sprinkled with self references and tributes, as the names of the three protagonists are taken from Manjil Virinja Pookkal (1980), marking the directorial debut of Fazil (Fahadh’s father) and launched the career of Mohanlal, the megastar (this was his first release) who made his appearance as Narendran, the villain.
