Andrés is a frustrated musician. His job at a gloomy laboratory is not fulfilling, and he is still unable to move out from his mother’s place. Shortcomings are now something common in his life –he was kicked out of his indie band for political discrepancies, no one wants to collaborate in his new solo project, the crisis worsens in Venezuela and his friends start to leave the country in search of opportunities. In this climate of alienation, he bumps into the beasts: two masked beings that will help him write his new material. What are these entities? Me & the Beasts builds a mysterious and playful answer. The first feature by Nico Manzano, who also wrote the catchy songs that drive the narrative forward, can be seen as a portrait of melancholy and shy characters with musical touches, or as an acid comedy with just the right dose of fantasy. A rarity that, as the main character recites in his first solo show, always takes “the alternate routes.”
