"Vanna Jigina" from director Ravi Nanda Periyasamy is a thoughtful little film about discrimination based on one's complexion and also the perils lurking behind misuse of social networking. It is a film with too many close up shots of Colgate and Pepsodent smiles and a nagging 80's hangover so much so that ur jaws begin to ache even when u want to just smile or smirk.
Vijay Vasanth as the hero fits the bill and Sanea Tara as the girl he falls for with a fake i.d and chat on FB is refreshing. The music by John Peter is not gr8 but one particular melodious track which plays in the background and as a song proper in a dream sequence is one bright spot.Sridevi as Karugamani plays a crucial role here and is a natural. There is a villain who appears more sophisticated ans turns into a caricaturist performance.Another supporting actor playing the role of a fashion photographer here looks nice but doesnot get much scope. The camera work by Balaji
Vanna Jigina is an interesting premise which needed more solid execution and a lil more modernized treatment. At a run time of less than 2 hours, it is just passable effort
