This family-oriented relationship drama traces the twists and turns in the life of Chakravarty, an intelligent and capable young man. After completing his education successfully, he seeks and finds employment in the office of a wealthy businessman, who takes a strong liking to him.
After a few ego clashes, Chakravarty falls in love with Kalyani, his boss' daughter. However, as her father, his boss objects to their union and challenges Chakravarty to earn wealth and stature equal to his own. Chakravarty agrees to the challenge, and says that he would marry Kalyani only after completing his future father-in-law's condition.
Consequently, he quits his job and works towards becoming a successful playback singer in the film industry. Soon, he gains fame and fortune but before he can reunite with Kalyani, Chakravarty returns home to meet with his childhood teacher and benefactor.
Chakravarty finds that his teacher is unable to get his daughter, Gowri married due to his own poverty and excessive dowry demands. Gowri becomes so despondent that she loses her mental stability and begins to repeatedly attempt suicide. At the request of his teacher, Chakravarty finds himself forced to accept marriage with Gowri.
Heartbroken, Chakravarty returns to Kalyani and explains the whole story to him, and she agrees that he is duty-bound to marry Gowri. How will Kalyani's father react to Chakravarty's marriage? How will this complex love triangle evolve?
