Movie : Pugazh (U)
Rating : 3.5/5
I wanted to see a film of Jai ever since I saw him. This time, I luckily got to watch his new film PUGAZH. In PUGAZH, Jai gives what is a good performance. Be it the fights, the songs and even the romantic parts, he's excellent. The film, which is a political action drama, has the necessary ingredients to be an inspiring film, especially for the youth. In other words, it's a must watch film.
Jai, who plays the lead titular role of Pugazh, is the biggest strength of the film. His performance is never over the top, and rather has its heart in the right place. His voice and angry expressions are the best examples. Surabhi as the female lead is fine. RJ Balaji is entertaining with his comic timing. Other actors too play their respective parts well.
The music is excellent, with the song "Naanga Podiyan" being the best and also my favourite. Another song from Arijit Singh is melodious. The fight sequences are excellently choreographed and shot. The climax fight is terrific. The editing is razor sharp and even though it isn't made too commercial, it doesn't bore at all. The songs don't pop up unnecessarily. Rathet, the way of presentation goes beyond imagination for an Indian film.
The story and screenplay are both excellent, and will appeal to audiences looking out for some terrific cinema. There are no crude jokes or unnecessary vulgarity, and the film is good to be watched by all. Even the action sequences are well placed.
Overall, PUGAZH comes out as something rightly expected. It's not merely a great film, but a film that has all the power to help Jai re-establish his stardom in Kollywood. I am now a big fan of him. Thus, four stars out of five for this powerful action entertainer!
