Nightcrawler (2014)

NIGHTCRAWLER….Sometimes unemployment makes a human mind work in a way, which you will be surprised yourself. One such character is “Lou” played by Jake in the movie. A petty thief unhappy with the current employment situation, is on a job hunt. One fine night finds a way by which he can make money on regular basis. That’s when he ventures in to “night crime reporting”, the job which started as a necessity becomes an obsession, which takes a U turn surprising everyone.

Dan Gilroy takes everyone by surprise in this slick crime thriller, he keeps a steady pace through out the movie without deflecting from the subject. Dan took a timid boy and gave a slick treatment to the character “Lou” . In the beginning you feel sorry for the character but later you develop a hatred towards him. With a subject so intense he tries to keep the humor at it’s best which was laced well with thrilling moments in the movie. Dan did a fantastic job for debutante as a director.

Jake blends in to the character so well, that you start to believe him as “Lou”. He gets submerged in as Lou Bloom, the hatred towards him intensifies throughout the film and he makes sure there is no room for error. He oozes out an eerie feel which gives you chills and keeps you glued to the screen. The supporting cast Rene Russo, Riz Ahmed and Bill Paxton are absolutely great in this flick.

The cinematography by Robert Elswit is top notch, the drive scenes were shot well with great pace. That was complimented by razor sharp editing by John Gilroy.

What makes “Nightcrawler” a great watch is it’s sheer taste for wickedness and it’s raw velocity. A great film for a first timer, which keeps you hooked on the entire time, like they say “don’t judge the book by it’s cover”……In this case don’t judge this film by it’s posters and budget. It’s not only a great watch but also a brilliant film. Highly recommend it!!!
