She recalls, in flashback, her carefree days with her first boyfriend, the rebellious social-activist Manmohan (Karthik), who was shot dead in front of the courthouse, just before they were to have a registered marriage. She seeks a divorce, but as the law requires the couple to stay together for a year, they decide to live separately in the same house. The soundtrack of this movie consists of five songs composed by Maestro Ilaiyaraaja, and is considered a classic by many music lovers.The hit number Mandram Vandha was later adapted by Ilayaraja in the Hindi movie Cheeni Kum (2007).
