Trivia:
A sequel to this movie is being planned by producer Manoj Desai.

This movie entered India's Limca Book of Records as the first Bollywood film to use surround sound technique.

This movie was a phenomenal success both critically and commercially; it won many awards and accolades including four Filmfare awards that year.

This big budget production was shot at exotic locations in India, Afghanistan, Nepal and Bhutan.

The producers originally planned to fly down musicians from Afghanistan to record the background music pieces of the film, but the plans were scrapped.

For a song of Khuda Gawah, recorded on June 17, 1989, Amitabh Bachchan participated in the music sittings on June 14, 15 and 16 at his Juhu bungalow from 7 to 10 p.m. along with music directors Laxmikant-Pyarelal.

Sanjay Dutt was signed to play the role of Inspector Raja Mirza, but he dropped out of the project after shooting some of his scenes.

Farha was initially approached to play Inspector Henna Ranveer Singh.

The producers hired 20 air-conditioners to keep the atmosphere cool because of the thick woolen costumes.

This was Amitabh Bachchan's last film before his self-imposed sabbatical during which time he did not star in any movie. He made a comeback five years later with Mrityudaata.

Jackie Shroff, Chunky Pandey and Ajay Devgan were all approached for Nagarjunas role.

The makers used the movie title from a shelved Manmohan Desai film Khuda Gawah (1978) the film had Amitabh Bachchan in double role and Parveen Babi which was scrapped after some shooting, the film was also dedicated to Manmohan Desai, who is shown before the movie starts.

The Afghani president provided the whole production unit air force security. This film turned out to be the most watched Hindi film in the History of Afghanistan.

Amitabh Bachchan's role was initially a 6 day guest appearance but the producer Manoj Desai insisted to Amitabh that his role increase to a full fledged role.
