Embedded with deep emotion and social relevance, this family-oriented drama delves into the trials and travails in the life of Lakshmi, a beautiful, mild-mannered and cultured young woman, who is believed to be unlucky by her own mother and sister. On the other hand, her younger sister, Latha, despite being arrogant and immoral is considered lucky and hailed by one and all.
Lakshmi's only source of solace is her father, who loves her unconditionally, but is unable to do anything as Lakshmi faces great pressure from society to get married. Beyond a point, her parents also begin to apply pressure as Latha is keen on getting married, but can only do so after her elder sister, Lakshmi gets married, according to social norms.
However, when a prospective bridegroom is invited home for Lakshmi's sake he seeks Latha's hand in marriage, and is disinterested in Lakshmi. Despite being against social norms, and causing all kinds of ugly rumours against Lakshmi, she agrees to get her younger sister, Latha married first, to the man of her choice. However, complications develop and Lakshmi is forced to take the place of the bride, only to have the groom refuse to marry her at the last moment.
In a quirk of fate, Sridhar, a guest at the wedding, who considers himself to be very unlucky decides to intervene and ensure that Lakshmi's marriage takes place successfully. When he begins speaking on Lakshmi's behalf, he is goaded into agreeing to be her bridegroom himself. Will Sridhar and Lakshmi get married after all? How will their marital relationship pan out? What surprises and challenges does the future hold for Lakshmi, Sridhar, and Lakshmi's sister, Latha?
