Where did you watch this movie?

One of filmdom’s most beloved trios; “Ice Age’s” Manny, Diego, and Sid embark upon their greatest adventure after cataclysm sets an entire continent adrift. Separated from the rest of the herd, they use an iceberg as a makeshift ship, which launches them on an epic seafaring quest. Manny and the gang are challenged like never before to become heroes and do the impossible, as they encounter exotic sea creatures, explore a brave new world, and battle ruthless pirates. Scrat’s reunion with his beloved but cursed acorn catapults him to places no prehistoric squirrel has gone before.

Did you know? Initially in production Gutt was designed as a bear, but in the end, Peter DeSève, the film's art director, settled on an ape, due to the ape's flexibility and four hands, which seemed more fitting to have him swinging on the ship's rigging. Read More

Goofs:
Continuity
When Manny, Diego, and Sid are on the ice floe with the giant crab during the storm; as the large wave approaches, Sid grabs the right fore leg of the crab. As the go through the wave, Sid is still holding the right fore leg. When they emerge from the wave, Sid is now holding what would be the left fore leg (it curves left (when facing the crab) back into the body).

Continuity
During the chase at switchback cove, Manny 'holds Sid higher,' and promptly hits him against three trees. In the next shot, they are on a ledge, and no trees are in sight. In earlier overhead shots of the area, there are also no trees seen along the path used.

Continuity
During the sea shanty "Master of the Seas", Shira is at one point to Gupta's left, but in the shot in which he plays the fife, she is to his immediate right.

Continuity
Many of the pirates' weapons switch places and hands during the land bridge trap sequence. Firstly, Gupta, on Gutt's order, gives his dagger to Louis, who leaves it behind when he digs under the ice. When Gupta and Flynn chase Sid and Granny to the ship's underbelly shortly after, he has Gutt's dagger instead, which Gutt dropped at the ship's front when Louis smashed ice on his foot, and Flynn, who previously possessed a skull sword, has Raz's spear, which vanished from her grasp inexplicably after Manny broke free. Then, as Gupta and Flynn flee the ship's underbelly, then leave their weapons behind. As we cut back to the ship's topside, Raz has her spear back. Gutt is initially weaponless, but has his dagger back at the pirates corner Manny, Diego, Shira, Crash and Eddie. Gutt also has his original dagger back, and Flynn has his skull sword back. Then, in the shot where Precious blasts Gupta, Razz and Flynn, Gupta, Flynn and Gutt are all unarmed, while Raz's spear in knocked overboard with her. When Peaches cuts Ellie free shortly after, she does so with Gupta's dagger, tossing it away from the ship's front after. Finally, when the floe Manny and Gutt are on is raised by the seabed rock, the floe is initially weaponless, but gains Raz's spear, Gupta's dagger, Flynn's skull sword, and another sword knocked from Raz's punch earlier, all of which were in different locations. All four weapons are either lost overboard or broken during Manny and Gutt's fight.

Continuity
During the chase at Switchback Cove, when Manny, and Diego leap onto the ice floe, and Manny catches Sid, Diego (with Granny on his back) is on Manny's left. But in all subsequent shots, Diego and Granny are on Manny's other side, until Diego slams into a ice rock leading up to the ice ship.

Factual Mistake
Apes and monkeys have short, blunt fingernails similar to those of humans. They would be completely incapable of gutting someone, as Captain Gutt claims.

Factual Mistake
After Manny pulls down the mast the "pirate ship" breaks in half and sinks. This is impossible because the "ship" is an iceberg and ice floats.

Factual Mistake
Precious, the whale, is depicted with both a blowhole and a pair of nostrils just forward of the eyes. This is impossible - whales' blowholes are their nostrils.

Factual Mistake
Granny is seen feeding fruit to her "pet", Precious the whale. Whales are all carnivorous.

Factual Mistake
Captain Gutt is referred to as a monkey several times. He is an ape, not a monkey.

Factual Mistake
Scrat is referred to as a rodent by one of the Scratlantians. He is clearly not a rodent, having large canine teeth and no visible incisors. Rodents have no canines and large, prominent incisors that never stop growing.

Factual Mistake
Louis is referred to as a rodent by one of the young mammoths, yet he is supposedly a 'mole-hog'. Neither moles nor hedgehogs are rodents.
Trivia:
Originally, the story was rumored to involve Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie, and Scrat frozen solid and accidentally defrosted in a museum in present day. The movie was going to be called "Ice Age: Th4w".

When on the iceberg ship, Sid the Sloth says "water water everywhere, but not a drop to drink". This is from "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner", a poem written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge in 1798. The actual line from the poem, however, is "Water, water everywhere, nor any drop to drink."

The Earth's Core information screen (seen when Scrat is falling to the center of the Earth) reads "Fig 4.1: The inner core is 6,000 kilometers below the earth's surface and composed primarily of molten lava. It is often drawn in textbooks to look like a floating pinball. Fun fact: It's near 7,000 C down there, so bring your oven mitts! Blue Sky Studios takes no responsibility for the scientific accuracy of the information presented here."

Captain Gutt is a Gigantopithecus Blacki, a prehistoric orangutan, which based on fossil evidence may have stood 9.8 feet (3 meters) tall and weighed 1,190 pounds (540 kg).

Squint was at one point designed as having a peg leg and was initially intended to be the leader of the pirates.

Peter DeSève designed a number of animals for the film that never made it to the final cut: eohippus (prehistoric horses), a large horselike animal that Sid would have ridden, a giant squid and a number of prehistoric sharks that would have nearly eaten Granny in the scene in which she takes a bath in the ocean.

Initially in production Gutt was designed as a bear, but in the end, Peter DeSève, the film's art director, settled on an ape, due to the ape's flexibility and four hands, which seemed more fitting to have him swinging on the ship's rigging.

The knife Squint throws to Louis is Buck's knife from Ice Age 3.

Jeremy Renner was originally cast in the movie as Captain Gutt, but he dropped out because of scheduling conflicts and was replaced by Peter Dinklage.

The kangaroo character Raz is probably Procoptodon, aka: "Short-Faced Kangaroo", a 7-10 foot tall extinct member of the kangaroo family.

When Sids family shows up, granny is seen riding tied in a seat on a poll in the log, this is a reference to the Beverly hillbillies where the granny whose very stubborn and loves to play tricks gets tied to a rocking chair on their car in effort to get her to move to Beverly hills.

The 2nd film Keke Palmer plays daughter to Queen Latifah (Joyful Noise).

The 16th biggest grossing film of 2012.
