American actress and filmmaker, Greta Gerwig was initially prominent with her association with the mumblecore film movement, after which she had provided notable works in movies Greenberg in 2010, Frances Ha in 2012 for which she received a Golden Globe nomination, and Mistress America. Greta is of German, Irish, and English ancestry and was raised as a Unitarian Universalist. With an early interest in dance, she intended to do a degree in musical theatre in New York, but ended up studying english and philosophy instead. Outside of class, she used to perform in the Columbia Varsity Show alongside Kate McKinnon. Gerwig originally intended to become a playwright, but was cast in a minor role in Joe Swanberg's LOL in 2006. She received wide spread acclaim for her performance in 'Frances Ha' which received a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical. Gerwig is said to make her solo directorial debut with Lady Bird which stars Saoirse Ronan, Tracy Letts, Laurie Metcalf and John Karna. She has been dating writer-director Noah Baumbach since late 2011. Greta has received appreciation for her supporting roles in the 2016 films - 'Jackie' and '20th Century Women'.
