Trivia:
The film is a remake of director S. M. Sriramulu Naidu's own Tamil movie Malaikkallan (1954). It was also made by the same director in Malayalam as Thaskaraveeran (1957), starring legendary actor Sathyan.

The film was the top grossing Hindi film of 1955 and was one of the decade's biggest hits.

Dilip Kumar work in this film won him his third Filmfare Award for Best Actor.

Maestro and composer Naushad was first choice as music director. He refused when S. M. Sriramulu Naidu insisted that the songs had to be composed in a week. C. Ramchandra was roped and the melodies were composed in record time.
