Atom Egoyan

Atom Egoyan is a Canadian stage and film director, writer and producer. He has directed 15 full-length films, several television episodes, and a few shorter pieces. In 1984, his debut film Next of Kin world premiered at the International Film festival Mannheim-Heidelberg and won a major prize. Earlier he planned to be a playwright, but after making a short film, he filmed Calendar (1993) in Armenia. His career breakthrough came with Exotica (1994) and his most critically acclaimed film is the drama 'The Sweet Hereafter' (1997), for which he received two Academy Award nominations and also earned Egoyan Academy Award nominations for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. His biggest commercial success came by the thriller 'Chloe' (2009). In 2008, Egoyan received the Dan David Prize for "Creative Rendering of the Past", later received the Governor General's Performing Arts Award, Canada's highest royal honour in the performing arts, in 2015. He also directed Sarabande, Ararat (2002), Cruel and Tender, Devil's Knot (2013), The Captive (2014) and Remember.
