Trivia:
The film launched Amitabh Bachchan into stardom and pioneered his new image of a brooding but explosive person who fights back when cornered, known as "The Angry Young Man."

The lead role was initially offered to Raaj Kumar, who refused to work with Prakash Mehra on the grounds that he could not stand the smell of the latter's hair oil!

Pran was reluctant to sing or dance and threatened to walk out on the very first day. Prakash Mehra had to rush to Pran's house and plead with him. Finally song was shot and Pran gave one one of the best performances of his career.
