This poignant family drama delves into the struggle and success in the life of Venu (Mohanlal), an educated man who works at a tea plantation. After being fired, he tried to get his job back by playing music for Menon's (the wealthy plantation owner) only daughter, Sarojam (Urvashi). In time, when Sarojam falls in love with me know and express is the desire to marry him, Menon comes to him put the proposal. He reveals that Sarojam has a fatal health condition, and pleads with him to marry her anyway, in return for ownership of his entire wealth. The impoverished Venu agrees primarily due to his family's dire financial situation, but finds himself slowly falling in love with his wife. Gradually, their love blossoms into an unconditional connection that makes them inseparable, and leads to the birth of their daughter, Ammu. However, while Ammu is still a child, Sarojam's condition becomes a serious and she passes away in the arms of her beloved Venu. Despite being shattered by Sarojam's loss, Venu finds meaning in life through lavishing love and care on Ammu. When Ammu grows into a beautiful young woman, Venu's world is once more rocked by tragedy, when his informed that his daughter has the same condition that his mother did. How will Venu react to this heartbreaking news? Will Ammu's life be blessed enough to have history repeat itself?
