Ayitham (1988)

This melodiously musical family drama revolves around Vasudeva Bhagavatar, an exceptional musician with immense knowledge in traditional Indian music whose life has gone downhill due to his alcoholism. When the sought-after singer loses face in front of the local and musical community, his son, Sankaran (Mohanlal) field shame and anger towards his father. In an added twist, Bhama (Ambika) who is daughter of Periyasamy, falls in love with Sankaran, but unfortunately she is married off to another man ,Kacheri Mani Ayyer. She becomes his second wife and thus her life becomes a tragedy. Furthermore, Vasudeva Bhagavatar, haunted as he is by his own daemons fails to express care, love and concern for his young son making him feel alienate it and resentful. How will this father-son relationship pan out? How will Sankaran's future unfold?
